Might & Main- Vicky Clarke

The Penthouse is pleased to welcome artist Vicky Clarke as a Might & Main resident artist. 

Vicky Clarke is a sound artist based in Manchester at The Old Bank. Through the creation of sound sculptures; her work explores methods of visualising, perceiving and uncovering sound. She investigates sound as a material through compositions, performances and installations that involve chaos, chance and interaction. Working with electronic, digital and analogue textures; she uses found objects, archives, self built instruments, machines and formats to interrogate and amplify the sonic properties of material and spaces both real and imagined. Vicky is co-founder of Noise Orchestra, a sound art project that is developing electronic noise machines that translate light into sound.

Recent solo work includes commissions from the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Arts‘ Call and Response programme; a live sound performance for ‘TRILOGIES LIVE by Susan pui san Lok’, performed live at HOME. Central Libraries Archives+ with the Greater Manchester Sound Archive where she was the first artist to work creatively with the archives and create a new composition based on reworked interviews and original recordings from the vast archive of socio-political oral histories, Jodrell Bank space archives and industrial sound recordings of Manchester. She has exhibited her work both in the UK and internationally, most recently with Udk for Transit Zone Pavillion in Berlin and through numerous artistic projects and events leading the Whitworth Young Contemporaries. With Noise Orchestra, she has undertaken residencies at the National Media Museum, Q-O2 space for experimental music; Brussels and was selected on to the Arts+Tech Creative Accelerator with Madlab, ACE and Innovate UK.
